OUTLOOK ’17: Imports remain driver for US epoxy market Imported product arriving at a discount and margin pressures are expected to remain the biggest drivers in the US epoxy resin market for 2017. Producers in the US pushed for several price increases, but were met with strong resistance, given ample supply in the market. Pricing in 2017 is expected to face similar dynamics.

Firstly, the summer and autumn to date has seen unseasonably hot weather conditions in the UK, Continental Europe and on the East Coast of the USA. Critically, these conditions have continued through into September and the first half of October and have significantly affected demand for autumn/winter product, particularly sweats and jackets, which account for around 45% of Superdry’s annual sales. The effect of the weather conditions experienced in the first half of the financial year, when combined with the well-publicised challenges facing some of Superdry’s trading partners, is expected to adversely impact profits for financial year 2019 by around £10m.

The binding conformation of azoxystrobin to bovine heart CYTBC1 derived from the docking result revealed a similar conformation to that in crystal structure “1SQB”15. The root mean square deviation (RMSD) between the docked conformation and the crystal one was 0.67 with a docking score of 11.75 (Table 4). It is believed that the docking method should be useful for studying the binding conformation of the four novel QoI fungicides to the target (Fig. 3a). The methoxy methyl acrylate groups of the four novel QoI fungicides inserted between the residues F128 and Y131 of the C-helix, and hydrogen bonds, π-π stacking and van der Waals interaction existed in the binding of the four novel QoI fungicides to the wild-type Qo-binding pocket (Fig. 3b). The docking scores for the four QoI fungicides were shown in table 4. SYP-2815 was the second highest one after azoxystrobin, suggesting a relatively strong binding affinity relative to SYP-1620, ZJ0712, and enestroburin.

OUTLOOK ’17: US benzene strong, but uncertainty remains While benzene values had been strengthening in late 2016, the market is uncertain that the strength will hold moving into 2017. A rally for upstream crude oil values lifted benzene prices in early to mid-November. On the supply side, there was tightness in the benzene market due to issues at several US Gulf refineries.
